The process

  • Definition

A Manifesto is a personal and written statement that states the beliefs and intentions and beliefs of a person or a certain group. (Merriam Webster 2016)
    • Surrealism Manifesto
    • Bauhaus/Destijl
    • Futurism Manifesto
    • Dada manifesto
    • The Stuckist manifesto

  • The utopian ideals of:

Surrealism (1920-1930)
A Surrealists' world is filled with fantasy, strange dreams and spontaneity.
There utopian beliefs are along the premise of breaking free from any social norms (Mediocre ideas) to b able to explore the subconscious construct at its fullness. like any other group this was inspired by the zeitgeist of the time to oppose or accompany the complete construct of through design and art. (Sharon linde, 2016)

Manifesto by Andre Breton, 1924

Bauhaus/Destijl (1917-1931)
Bauhaus people believe in a simplistic world filled with harmony and order. This was inspired by the chaos that raged across the land of holland in the Great War. Theirs was the desire to express harmony and balance depicted in their art work. (Jeanne Willette, 2011)

Manifesto by Walter Adolph Georg Gropius, 1919

Futurism (1909-1944)
Like any other movement futurism believes in breaking away from the social norms but there utopian idea is the purification of human race though war. 'War is the only hygiene'. they believe that books/ literature taught a lot of ideas that was inside the box, so they believed that aggressive action was the answer to the mediocre life that was taught. (Jeanne Willette, 2011)

Manifesto by F.T Marinetti, 1909

Dada (1916-1920)
This movement was believed to not being a movement at all because it was created to being totally different from the rest. Its utopian ideas was to be independent and not follow any aesthetic forms of art. This means that they didn't follow any theory of any kind.(Jeanne Willette, 2011)

Manifesto by Tristan Tzara, 1918

Stuckist (1999)
These are the utopian ideals that are believed by the Stuckists
Stuckism is the quest for authenticity.
Painting is the medium of self-discovery.
Stuckism proposes a model of art which is holistic.
Artists who don’t paint aren’t artists.
Art that has to be in a gallery to be art isn’t art. (Jeanne Willette, 2011)

Manifesto, 1999

  • Generations.

These are the generations and the dates that they were:
  • The baby boomer Generation
  • The beat Generation (c.1950)
  • The pictures Generation (1974–1984)
  • The Millennial Generation/Generation Y (1980 – 2000)
  • Generation X (1961-1981)
The most recent Generation.
The Millennial Generation (1980 – 2000) we are the generation that test the boundaries of every theory albeit:
·      Religion
·      Science
·      Art
·      Our existence and purpose
Now that a lot has happened in the generational pool we find ourselves as the generation that is finding its place in the world, discovering their individual selves. Now that we finally understand the concept of personal freedom, we believe that our next task as a Generation is to find our Utopian destination which will be holistic freedom.

  • Contemporary Medium

The Mediums that the group feels we can be easily defined by is Technology. The fact that everything we do is connected by technology. If we don’t see it on television or hear it on radio it becomes basically nonexistence. We feel that the messages spread through certain shows and music videos like:

Regular Show and Adventure time (Urban Cartoon)
These cartoons emulate everyday youth experiences. Our generation sees their everyday interactions through these cartoon characters. In regular show the main characters are more or less to be categorized as the Y generation. This is shown through the challenges that they face with their newly found employment after college and High school. They also face problems with those they interact with. Common youthful phases and terms are used in this cartoon. (Tebogo and Tiffany, 2016)

PSA by Raury (Music videos)
Imagine society as a large machine in which we are all connected by technology no-matter where we are. It is through this machine that we feel we have more relation to each other, this is where we lose that authentic human interaction that brings us together. Whenever we are denied this medium, people feel disconnected from one another. The aim of this music video is to go against this habit of digital interaction. (Mphiwa Nendouvhada, 2016)

  • Facebook platforms

This generation mostly talks about:
Relationships
We are able to see this in the relationship statuses that are clearly depicted in the conversations of those in are relationship or out of one. There is even an option to show whether you are in a relationship are a marriage relationship.

Religion own beliefs
There is a level of emotional manipulation to be able to react to the religious posts, E.g. Hit like if you love Jesus.

  • The nature of contemporary utopia

The nature of our contemporary utopia is based on the dystopia of the past that is caused by the older generation. We search to find solutions for old problems such as gender inequality, racism etc.

The product

  • The Manifesto

According to the manifesto that emerged based on utopian ideals of which perfection is a desire we strive as a community to achieve greatness and holistic peace through human interaction and self-awareness. We believe that technology has greatly contributed to our knowledge but it has in turn built social barriers among us which hinder us from learning and talking to each other on a personal level. We strive to bring the best out of whoever believes in us and hope to build each other as so building a much more peaceful society which judges not by material and physical attributes, but by who you really are.

  • Facebook

We live in a place where we have to be something that is not who we really are just to be regarded as normal, we always gots ta go to church and be another drop in the ocean of ignorance #WeAreAloneInThisWorld. We are torn by umswenko, fancy gadgets which make us Look kooL but we are blinded by the lights of our phones and computers that we don’t even see ourselves as humans, but as just another contact on as social media platforms. We trust in our cliques and squads for they bring the G out in us so in turn we hype them up in order to bring the G out in them. We want to build empires that push peace in the lives we live.
